Take these steps first to protect yourself after a Jones Act maritime injury

The first steps to take if you’ve suffered any type of injury offshore is to get immediate proper medical treatment from a doctor you trust, not your employer. Almost every employer will insist that they choose the doctor for you. That is not required under the Jones Act. In fact your employer must pay for a doctor you select. The second thing to do if you have any type of injury offshore is document the injury well. If you must give a recorded statement make sure you’re very clear in the recorded statement about how the injury happened and most importantly point out what was done wrong that caused your injury. And, the third final thing you should do if you suffer any type of injury offshore is don’t go back to work too soon. Your employer may be rushing you back to work. They may want you out there so that they can claim that you’re no longer injured. If you have any questions, download our free book or call us today and we can help you.
