A Texas seaman is suing his employer over a back injury he sustained while working onboard ship almost two years ago. Mark Hilton, of San Jacinto County, was employed by Hercules Offshore Inc. He was assigned to one of the company’s inland barges, Hercules 27, which was docked in the coastal waters of Louisiana.
According to court records, Hilton was pulling slips and performing other heavy labor as part of his job duties when he injured his back and other parts of his body. The lawsuit states Hilton was performing these duties without appropriate help, and that the company is responsible for the injuries because it did not provide the help necessary for Hilton to perform his duties.
The suit also claims that the barge was unseaworthy.
Hilton is seeking damages for his medical expenses, lost earnings, pain and suffering and mental anguish.
