Two offshore workers were injured when a fire broke out on an offshore oil platform located about 50 miles south of Grand Isle, Louisiana.
The fire broke out at about 8 a.m. on Sunday, March 6 on GI 102A oil production rig owned by Arena. The platform had been shut down two weeks before the fire and was not producing product at the time. The injured men were the only workers aboard.
The men escaped from the platform in a life capsule. They were rescued from the water by a Good Samaritan vessel, the HDS Stormridge. A Coast Guard helicopter crew flew workers to West Jefferson Medical Center in Marrero, La.
Neither man was seriously injured.
The fire was put out by at least 1:30 p.m. The blaze is still under investigation as Bureau of Oceans and Energy Management officials attempt to determine caused fire to break out on the oil rig and verify the status of the wells and platform.
When fire breaks out at sea, seamen can suffer serious burn and inhalation injury. If they are far from shore, the injuries may be exasperated by delayed medical attention. If you have been injured in an offshore fire, contact The Young Firm at 866-938-6113.
