When should you return to work after a Jones Act accident and injury? If the company doctor releases you, should you try to return to work? Jones Act lawyer Timothy Young explains why that may be a very bad idea.

Released to return to work? You may want to think twice about returning to work.

You should never try and go back to work after a serious maritime injury unless you've seen a good doctor. You also want to make sure that you have a lot of tests run. We tell our clients to make sure that they're certain through medical testing that they are able to go back to work. We also tell our clients to try and get a partial release first. A lot of doctors will give a full release and tell the patient don't bother coming back. We tell our clients they want to have a trial period offshore to make sure that they're able to go back to fully performing the work out there. Never try to go back to work unless you've got those qualities met.
