Hearing loss due to loud machinery and noise offshore or on vessels? Learn your rights under the Jones Act.

My name is Tim Young. I’m a maritime and Jones Act attorney in New Orleans, Louisiana. If you work in a maritime environment, I want to speak to you for a minute about noise induced hearing loss. Now if you’re on an oil rig, if you’re on a vessel or if you’re on a barge, chances are you’re working around very heavy machinery that’s very loud. Typically, you’re going to work around generators, you’re going to work on the rig floor on drilling rigs. You can suffer what’s called noise induced hearing loss. This is a very special type of injury. What it means is that your hearing has gotten worse or it’s diminished over years of working around this heavy loud equipment.
