Do you know that you can have two employers under the Jones Act? I’m maritime attorney Tim Young, and under the Jones Act you can actually have two companies that are acting as your employer at the same time. This becomes particularly important if you have a work accident or a work injury, because a lot of times you need to make sure that you name any company that could possibly have been your employer at the time. This can make a difference if one company has a lot of insurance and another company may not have as much insurance or be able to pay the full value of your claim. Call us if you have any questions at all about who your employer may have been at the time of your accident or if there were other companies involved in your accident that potentially could be deemed to be your employers under the law. It’s important to remember that under the Jones Act you can actually have more than one employer at the time of an injury or an accident. Your obligation is to make sure that if you have to file suit, you want to name anyone who could have been your employer at the time of that accident.
