How long do you have to settle your maritime Jones Act claim? When does your time to settle run out?

Hello I’m attorney Tim Young. I want to talk to you about how many years do you have to settle a maritime case.

Under the maritime law as well as under the federal statute known as the Jones Act you only have three years from the date of your accident to file suit. Now a lot of people think that when they’re getting paid benefits and when the company is paying for medical benefits this extends the period of time. That is not true. You only have three years under maritime law and under the Jones Act to file suit so make sure you protect your rights, make sure you get your suit filed if you have to file suit and it’s got to be within three years at the most under maritime law or under the Jones Act.
