How long will it take to receive your money after you settle your Jones act maritime case?

Timothy J. Young
Maritime and admiralty lawyer representing injured seamen and individuals who are seriously hurt at sea.

How long will it take for you to get your money after you settle a maritime injury case? I'm maritime attorney Tim Young. Generally it takes 30 to at the most 60 days to get your funds if you settle a maritime injury case. A lot of our clients will ask at the time that we settle the case when will I get my money? Do I have to go to court and will a judge order them to pay me a settlement?
Generally no, when you settle a maritime injury case or a Jones Act case usually funds are given to you within 30 days. Sometimes it does take up to 60 days. The only change to this and the only thing that prevents this is if you have to wait for some type of an approval of your settlement. Most often this is not required. It just depends on your situation as to whether that would be needed. Generally the rule is 30 days. Sometimes it takes 60 days before you get your settlement money in a Jones Act maritime case.
