Transocean and other employers from the DEEPWATER accident may have to pay maintenance and cure to employees until maximum cure of the injured.

How Do I Pay My Bills If Can’t Work During The Claim?

Under maritime law, your employer is required to pay maintenance and cure to you until you reach ‘maximum cure’ and the doctor releases you. Maintenance is the amount that it takes for you to pay your bills while you are injured. It is also possible to receive advances from your attorney for necessary living expenses on a month to month basis. If your employer wrongfully refuses to pay maintenance to you, or wrongfully pays an improperly low rate, you may have a claim for punitive damages against your employer.

If you were fortunate to have disability insurance through your employer (Transocean or otherwise), you may file a claim for disability benefits. This is true even for emotional injuries. Our office handles disability claims often which are filed with serious Jones Act claims on behalf of high wage earning individuals.
