What is the Prognosis for a Gulf Coast Offshore Brain Injury?

Traumatic brain injuries (TBI) are among the scariest injuries to sustain while working at your Gulf Coast job. The brain is the center of the human body's operations and when it is injured, you want the very best recovery possible. What kind of prognosis can you expect as you continue to heal?

Did a coma result from the injury? Did amnesia occur? Were there other injuries? If so, doctors look at the following factors and more to determine what the recovery might look like:

  • Length of time the coma lasted. For example, a coma lasting seconds to minutes might mean a recovery time of hours to days, while a coma lasting weeks could mean a much longer recovery, from months to years.
  • How severe the coma was in the hours immediately after the injury
  • Length of time amnesia lasted
  • The size and locations of specific injuries in the brain
  • The severity of other injuries when the TBI occurred

Even with the most detailed information, it remains very difficult for medical professionals to predict exactly how long recovery will take and how much lasting damage there will be. In general, though, some statements can be made:

  • The more severe the injury the longer the recovery time.
  • The type of injury will help to determine time in recovery.
  • The place in the brain that received damage will predict how long and how complete the recovery may be.
  • It does not necessarily mean a longer recovery if surgery was necessary.

Whatever your situation, we care about your recovery. And as you move forward with this process, you may have questions and concerns about how and why the accident happened and what your rights are.
