Slip and Fall Accidents Offshore: Who Is Responsible?

Bad weather, rough seas and slippery decks ...  just a normal part of the work environment when you are an offshore worker, but did you know that despite the inherent dangers of working at sea, a vessel owner is required to provide a safe work environment for seamen?

What does a safe environment mean when the vessel owner has no control over the weather or the tides?   It means that because the vessel owner knows, or should know, that a dangerous condition such as a slippery deck is likely to occur on the vessel, the vessel owner must do whatever possible to minimize the risk of injury to the crew.

Read our article, “Slip and Fall Accidents Offshore: What Are Your Rights When You Fall On-Deck?” to learn more about how vessel owners can prevent slip and fall accidents.

Your right to a safe workplace is mandated by maritime law.  If you are injured while working on a vessel, you should not hesitate to contact a maritime attorney.  An experienced maritime lawyer will be able to determine if negligence was involved in your injury and if the vessel was unseaworthy.  Contact the Louisiana Jones Act attorneys at The Young Firm to schedule a free consultation.
