November 2011 – Venice, LA – If you happen to have a few days on shore this fall and want to relax a bit, why not try some Mississippi River fishing?
AHN sports contributor Jojo Doria recently ran a story in the NOLA News that the community of Venice in Plaquemines Parish, Louisiana, is inviting recreational fishermen to come out and experience the excellent conditions that occur during the later fall months. Not only is the weather cooling, but the Mississippi water levels have been lowering, meaning fish are able to pool in a lake-like area rich in sediment.
These are optimal conditions for specks, redfish, flounder, speckled trout, mullet, menhaden and shrimp. The green, murky waters provide an inviting low-water condition that many small fish favor and attracts the larger predator fish, which are excellent for catching.
Local fishing experts say that the conditions this year are optimal all along the river, but some of the best spots include the Main River for redfish and bass, The Jump on the southern bank of Tiger Pass, and Cupid’s Gap, which hosts plentiful schools of trout and flounder.
Taking time off from your maritime work to spend a little rest and relaxation on dry land is important to your health. Even if your occupation is commercial fishing, recreational fishing is much more relaxed and low-pressure, which can be great for de-stressing and improving your mood.
Don’t forget to make personal time for yourself, or you may find that you become fatigued easier or experience more stress and frustration on the job. If you feel burned out, talk to your employer about your situation before it becomes a serious health concern.
