More than a year and a half has passed since the Deepwater Horizon oil rig explosion and reports of safety violations are still being filed.
According to Fox10TV.com, 5 new violations were filed against BP by federal regulators on Wednesday, December 7, adding to the already lengthy list against the oil company. The new violations included failure to perform precise pressure integrity tests and failure to postpone drilling procedures when the safe drilling margin wasn’t maintained.
These violations come just 2 months after federal regulators had cited BP for 7 other violations, and Transocean Lts. and Halliburton for 4 violations. According to a statement from the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement, the latest violations were issued in light of additional regulatory violations by BP that has been uncovered.
While BP does have 60 days to appeal the 5 new violations, they’ve already had to answer to numerous other accusations of negligence that may have led to the deadly oil rig explosion that cost 11 workers their lives. Oil rigs are extremely dangerous workplaces and require careful safety precautions and routine inspections to help decrease the chances of a serious accident.
If you’re an employee on an oil rig and suffer serious injury in an explosion, or if you’ve lost a loved one who was a worker on an offshore platform, you have the right to seek compensation for your damages and loss through a maritime accident claim.
