To find out if you
really want to work in the
maritime industry,
you may want to try your hand at a simulator at Maritime Professional Training's (MPT) S.M.A.R.T. Center. That's short for Simulation for Maritime Assessment, Research and Training.
If you think simulator means simple graphics on simple screens with a mouse and keyboard, think again. This realistic simulator will soon be available to students at MPT's campus in Fort Lauderdale, FL.The system, which offers a glimpse of what's it like to work out at sea, is part of MPT's plans to upgrade its training tools.
Installation plans include upgraded projectors and a curved screen to enhance direct-view displays, as well as multi-image processors for pixel-level image adjustments.
Additionally, there are 3 authentic bridges. M/V Endeavor, the flagship, has a 22 x 20 foot pilothouse with a 325-degree view.
It's complete with:
- engine gauges;
- display panels;
- bow and stern thrusters; and
- more - be sure to expect realistic motion sensation.
