Does the Jones Act Cover Oil Rig Accidents?

Whether or not the Jones Act applies to workers who are injured while working on offshore oil rigs is difficult to hypothesize in general terms. A Louisiana Jones Act lawyer at the Young Law Firm can listen to the specific details of your case and help you determine whether or not your oil rig accident injuries qualify for Jones Act protections.

Qualifying injuries that take place on an oil rig are covered by the Jones Act if they take place specifically on floating oil rigs or jack-ups. In theory, provided the oil rig isn't attached or fixed to the ocean floor, the Jones Act should apply. If the oil rig is attached to the ocean floor, then you would be eligible for the Longshoreman and Harbor Workers Compensation Act, but not for the Jones Act.

If you've suffered an injury while working aboard a floating oil rig or jack-up, contact a Louisiana Jones Act lawyer who can help you establish your claim for Jones Act benefits. You deserve to be compensated for your injuries, and an attorney at the Young Law Firm can help defend your rights and fight for benefits you need to cover your medical expenses, replace your lost wages, and minimize the effect of the injury on your life.
