4 Tips to Help Louisiana Offshore Workers Cope While Away from Family

When you're truly in love, it can be really tough to spend weeks or months away from your significant other. If you work in the maritime industry, you know what we mean.

However, the following coping tips may help you stay positive while you labor far away from home.

  • Whether your schedule is 7 days on and 7 days off or several months on and several months off you must recognize that you won't be offshore forever. Think about all the good times you've shared and reminisce about past memories. This encourages you to make plans for new memories.
  • Communicate often via email. Ask what your family has been up to and let them know you miss them and are eager to return home. Frequent communication can help you feel better. Communication also provides reassurance that you'll be together again soon.
  • Find a few co-workers you like and spend time together. If you spend too much time alone your focus can shift to your loved one's absence.
  • Get some exercise. Even if it's just a few push-ups and crunches every now and then, stay active. This can help improve your mood.

Remember the old saying, "absence makes the heart grow fonder?"  Keep the above coping tips in mind to ease your heartache while you're offshore working.
