3 Ways Talking Can Damage Your Offshore Injury Claim

It's natural to want to discuss a maritime accident and serious injuries with friends and family, but you must be careful to watch what you say and to whom when you seek to file a claim for damages after your offshore injury.

3 Major Ways You Can Damage Your Maritime Accident Claim

#1 - Social Media:
We tend to make light of our injuries after suffering a serious accident, and if your latest post to your buddies says, "Ah, it's just a scratch, I'll get over it," your employer may think you're just overreacting. Don't post any updates or photos that may make the insurance companies question how serious your injuries are.

#2 - Your Employer:
Immediately after the accident occurs, you should make sure your employer is aware of your offshore injury. However, you need to remember that they will be looking to avoid a claim and any record that may indicate they were negligent in providing a safe working environment. You should take caution that they don't try to downplay the severity of your injuries.

#3 - Insurance Company:
A claims adjuster will be assigned to your case, and his or her job is to make your injuries seem as minimal as possible to avoid paying out a fair settlement. Don't allow them to take a recorded statement or gain access to your medical records without consulting an attorney first!

You can be your own worst enemy if you don't watch what you say and how you conduct yourself during the maritime injury claim process
